The ASMNP group met for a fun evening at Victoria's in the Renaissance room. Social time and Italian food made for a pleasant and informative meeting.
Industry representatives presented updates and changes and answered questions.
The group then had a "boot camp" presentation on "Intensivist Training Update" by Liz Crawford, PA-C who works in the Trauma, Critical Care, and General Surgery ICU and is in charge of orientation. Two new intensivists are joining the ranks.
The second presentation was a "Contraceptive Update" by Elynn Welle, RN, CNP from Family Medicine. Not only was the room watching her presentation intently, but also some onlookers outside of the restaurant couldn't help but peep. Credit should be given for community education.

ASMNP Fall 2009 Kick-Off Event
The Annual Fall Kickoff was held at Salem Glen Winery, Thursday, September 24, 2009, in rural Rochester, Minnesota.
The weather was enjoyable for conversation, (with one another or pharmaceutical industry representatives) to sipping wine on the large deck. Salem Glen Winery was a gracious host to an estimated sixty Advanced Practice nurses, providing directed parking to wine tasting of a variety of their wine from whites to reds.
The meal was catered by Hy-Vee and included chicken breasts, lasagna, green beans, potatoes, fruit salad and cheesecake for dessert.
President Dalene Bott-Kitslaar, RN, CNP provided welcoming remarks and introduced and recognized the board members for 2009-2010. After pharmaceutical updates from industry representatives, door prizes were awarded for those names drawn from a basket that had paid their membership dues that night.
The evening ended with opportunity to purchase wine and look forward to the next meeting on Tuesday, November 10, 2009

ASMNP Group Meeting: May 14, 2009
The May 14th, 2009, ASMNP Group Meeting was held at the Plummer House in southwest Rochester.
Mary Chesner, PhD, RN, CNP, a Clinical Assistant Professor affiliated with the University of Minnesota, gave a fantastic presentation regarding NP practice entitled “ Nurse Practitioners in the Forefront of Health Care Reform.
In addition, eleven recent NP graduates were welcomed and provided with a free one year ASMNP membership.
Eighty attendees were treated to a delicious variety of food that was prepared and served by Jeff and Kathy Windt and associates of Catering by Design.
ASMNP will host it’s Fall Kickoff event in September of 2009. Additional details will follow in an E-Vite that will be sent out later this summer.

ASMNP Group Meeting: March 12, 2009
The March 12, 2009, ASMNP Group Meeting was held in the Evergreen Room at the Soldier’s Field Best Western Motel.
Certified Therapeutic Coach, Dawn Sanborn, began the presentation with instruction on various techniques that are designed to promote relaxation. Dawn Buttera Gregor, a certified yoga instructor who is also trained in a variety of alternative healing modalities, followed with a session using a technique known as Deeksha.
In keeping with the health and wellness focus of the event, a variety of hot hors d’oeuvres were provided for attendees, along with a delicious tomato basil soup.

November meeting highlights:
The ASMNP fall meeting was held at Victoria’s Restaurant on Thursday, November 11, 2008, in the Renaissance Room. Despite inclement weather, approximately 50 persons attended.
The meeting opened with pharmaceutical updates from industry representatives. Lynn Borkenhagen, RN, CNP, then presented information regarding novel diagnostics and treatments in Gastroenterology. Erica Beetcher, RN, CNP, followed, with a discussion of the NP approach to patient care in the division of Psychiatry. To close the evening, Kerry Stoick, RN, CNP, reviewed Mayo Express Care’s model for providing care in acute situations.

Fall Kickoff Meeting Highlights:
The Annual Fall Kick-Off Event for ASMNP was held at the Radisson
Plaza Hotel Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008. Approximately 50 Advanced Practice Registered Nurses attended, along with Industry representatives.

A tasty appetizer buffet comprised of croissants, assorted cheeses, chicken and barbecued meatballs was served, along with a complimentary refreshment for those paying annual dues ($30). Recent graduates received a complimentary one year membership. Members socialized and listened to live music featuring soprano and alto saxophone jazz standards performed by Dr. Dwight Jennings.
President Julie Johnson provided opening remarks, reviewing the history of ASMNP and invited pharmaceutical updates from Industry representatives.
Legistlative Brunch:
The election year ASMNP Legislative Brunch was held on July 27, 2008 and was well attended providing a wonderful opportunity to network with our locally elected representatives to the Minnesota State Legislature, including Sen. Dave Senjem, and Reps. Kim Norton and Andy Welti. Sue LaMotte, RN CNM, the Advanced Practice Nursing Consultant to the Minnesota Board of Nursing, was present as well.

Kathy Schams, DNP, ANP Viterbo University, presented an excellent overview of national issues from the American College of Nurse Practitioners 2008 Public Policy Agenda. Sue LaMotte, RN CNM followed with related Advanced Practice Nursing data from the State of Minnesota.
